Life at Selly Oak Trust School

Our New School Uniform Policy & Guidance

At Selly Oak we have consulted with our students and together we have made our school uniform choices as simple as possible. We always want our students to look smart, feel comfortable and take pride in their appearance. To help them do this we have some straightforward options for them to choose from.

From September 2026 all NEW students will be required to wear our new purple uniform. It will be optional for our existing students, who can choose to continue to wear their current uniform.

REQUIRED

All students in Year 7-11 must wear black trousers or skirt, white shirt or white polo shirt, black socks or tights (in winter months) and all black shoes or trainers. Our PE kit is a purple t-shirt, black shorts or jogger bottoms, white socks and black trainers or gym shoes. Year 7 students will be provided with a purple hoodie and a PE t-shirt with the school logo. Year 7 students are required to wear these.

OPTIONAL

All other students can then choose to wear a purple hoodie with the school logo, which can be purchased through one of our providers below.

Kids Essentials Schoolwear Birmingham - Northfield Shop

Printigo - Stirchley Shop

Any school logo uniform items are made to order. Returns or change of sizes will not be accepted. Parents can come in store to try the items on before placing orders.

OUR PE KIT

On the days our students are timetabled for PE or Sports options they can wear their PE kit all day.

Most of our uniform choices are unbranded so parents and carers can purchase from a retailer of their choice or purchase nearly new/second hand items. Parents and carers can also access free uniform from Rubery Swap Shop or Bournville Hub on the Green (check for opening times) a local charity supplying free unbranded, second hand uniform.

We know some students find it difficult to wear parts of our uniform because of their sensory or motor needs. We will always make reasonable adjustments, and parents & carers can call school to discuss uniform options with their child’s Engagement Lead or Head of School.

Parents and carers can also look at some different uniform adaptations sourced by our Occupational Therapy Team including some supportive items to alleviate sensory issues (click here www.sellyoak.bham.sch.uk/Getting-Dressed/

Please make sure all uniform items are clearly labelled with your child's first and last name.
