Admissions Arrangements

Admission Criteria

  • Selly Oak educates students in Years 7-14 (11-19 Years old).
  • All of Selly Oak's students have a Statement of Need or an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan).
  • The school admits students who have "moderate learning difficulties" plus additional difficulties, if the school feels able to meet those students’ needs.
  • The Local Education Authority requests places at the school.
  • The School meets and assesses the student formally and informally through visits and taster sessions.
  • The School decides whether or not it can meet the student’s needs.
  •  If the school feels able to meet the student’s needs it approaches the Admissions Committee of the Governing Body of the school for permission to admit the student.
  • The Governing Body approves or otherwise.

The Admissions Process – Appeals

Appeals for places refused can be made to SENAR under their Appeals Process. Where SENAR and the school disagree, the decision will be reviewed by the Governing Body Admissions Committee.
