Sixth form students are only required on site four days each week. On the fifth day of the week students will be able to choose from a work experience programme, a college taster course or take part in independent home learning.

Work Experience

At Selly Oak Trust School we understand the importance of our students gaining experience of the world of work. As well as the benefits of gaining an insight into a particular job role, work experience can provide an excellent boost for a student’s self –esteem, confidence and independence.

To promote these we encourage each student  to take part in a suitable work experience placement during their time in the Sixth form. We encourage students and their parents or carers to arrange their own work experience placements, however this is actively supported by our own work experience coordinator at Selly Oak Trust School.

Previous placements include:

  • Co-Op Supermarket
  • Cadburys
  • Cancer Research UK Charity Shop
  • School Catering Team
  • Primrose Residential Care
  • Revolution Gym
  • Zodiac
  • Cadbury World

College Taster

The majority of our students go on to attend a local college once they leave Selly Oak. To help with this transition we can offer a term long college taster programme where students will attend a local college, supported by a member of Selly Oak staff, for half a day each week for one term.

Current courses include:

  • Catering at QAC College
  • Construction at South & City College
